PSA Nitrogen Generator Working Principle
Atmospheric air comprises of 78% nitrogen where the PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) process utilizes the chemical CMS (Carbon Molecular Sieves) to extract the Nitrogen gas from atmospheric air. PSA process consists of 2 vessels that is filled with Carbon Molecular Sieves and Activated Alumina. Clean compressed air is passed through the 1st vessel (tank) that produces pure nitrogen gas while the other vessel is venting out Oxygen and other gases. The 1st and 2nd vessel takes rounds one by one to produce Nitrogen to make sure continuous Nitrogen gas is produced that goes to the Storage tank. As oxygen is vented out to atmosphere time to time, there is “pressurization” and “depressurization” process taking place at the Valve section, hence this technology got named as “Pressure Swing” and as the chemical CMS adsorbs oxygen hence the complete name as “Pressure Swing Adsorption”. Nitrogen, with the chemical formula N2, is a colorless and odorless gas, typically found in concentrations lower than that of air.
Constituting approximately 78.08% of the volume fraction of Earth's atmosphere, it is a major component of the air we breathe.
Under standard atmospheric pressure, nitrogen transforms into a colorless liquid when cooled to -195.8 degrees Celsius.
Further cooling to -209.8 degrees Celsius results in the formation of snowy liquid nitrogen.
